Nickel 
 

  • The Inconel and Incoloy Series were not develop until 1960 / 70’s and  to meet the demand for alloys that could offer good service life in high temperature applications.
     
  • The combination of Ni / Cr / Mo / Nb / Al / Ti was found to offer excellent corrosion resistance and strength in severe environments where ferrous based alloys could not survive. 
     
  • The individual alloys all have the common Ni based matrix at the core of corrosion resistance and from this have unique alloy additions to develop either corrosion resistance, strength and toughness depending on composition 
     
  • From these properties the Nickel Based materials found application in the most severe applications of Oil and Gas Production – Sour Gas Environment

 
Precipitation hardened grades 718/725/925

These offer high strength and good corrosion resistance typically in sour gas well applications. They derive their high strength from precipitation of gamma double prime (Ni3Nb) and gamma prime Ni3(Al,Ti).
Hardened grades are suitable for demanding service applications requiring high strength and corrosion resistance in aggressive environments.


Solid solution strengthened grades 625

Low strength by comparison, but 625 in particular provides excellent resistance to chloride ion induced stress-corrosion cracking. Offering moderate strength, 625 is suitable for use in severe environments with its high nickel content ensuring excellent high-performance corrosion resistance.
